Short Bio : Susmita Mukherjee Misty (b. 1996) is a visual artist, based in Dhaka. She completed her BFA in 2017 and MFA in 2019 from the Department of Sculpture, Faculty of Fine Arts, University of Dhaka. Misty’s work evolves from her very personal experiences. Thoughts and feelings from ordinary incidents of daily life are the initial inspiration for her artwork. Various opposing situations and conflicts of life become the main characteristics of her works with the balanced depiction of heavy and light, hard and soft, light and dark, bright and opaque. Misty uses unconventional and recycled materials such as wool, bamboo, cloth, rope, and polythene to create works inspired by her surroundings from the old part of Dhaka. Her practice often blurs the line between sculpture and installation, expanding the possibilities of form and material. Her first solo exhibition, “Panchmishali (Unsorted)”, was held at Kala Kendra, Dhaka in 2024. She has also participated in the 4th, 5th and 6th National Sculpture Exhibition (2018, 2021, 2024). Moreover, Susmita has taken part at 21st, 22nd and 23rd Young Artist Art Exhibition (2018, 2020, 2022) and she received the Honorable Mention at the 21st, then the Best Award in Sculpture at the 23rd edition. Nowadays, she is one of the members of Britto Arts Trust and simultaneously she is teaching at Gandaria Kisholoy Kochi-Kanchar Mela as well.
